Description

Closed during August.

The Well, Centre for Spirituality, Elsie Briggs House, is a small, 15th Century Hall House in Westbury on Trym. (It can be seen on the right of the photograph). It has been open as a place of contemplative prayer since 1991. It was bequeathed to the Anglican Diocese of Bristol by Dr Elsie Briggs in 1981, and is administered by a Management Committee. There is normally a resident Warden.

The House has a particular quality of silence and peace, arising from the on-going Christ-centred prayer that is central to its existence. It is a place of hospitality; members of any faith and none are warmly welcome. It has a beautiful garden, affiliated to the Quiet Garden Movement.

The House can be used by anyone for some time during a day or a whole Quiet Day or few days, by arrangement with the Warden.
