St. Martin of Tours, Chelsfield

Description

An early medieval church, the Anglican Parish Church of Chelsfield, Kent, is dedicated to St. Martin of Tours. The earliest parts of the current church building were constructed in the 12th century. A tower and chapel were added in the 13th century, a porch in the15th century and the current clergy vestry in the 19th century. An extension, known as the Brass Crosby Rooms, in the North West corner of the church was completed in February 2007.

Standard opening times: The church is open every day of the year from 8.30 am to 5.30 pm. Occasional prayers or services are held – see website for calendar.

By car – M25 Junction 4 to Orpington, at next roundabout take 4th exit (A224). Half a mile further on turn left into Church Lane and the church is on the right.
By public transport – Frequent trains to Orpington, then R3 bus to Chelsfield.
On foot – Orpington A224 Court Road to Chelsfield, a 3 mile walk, or from Chelsfield Station along Warren Road to Chelsfield, a 1 mile walk.

Facilities

Facilities: There are toilet facilities and a garden. Quiet days can be held by arrangement. Refreshments can be found in Chelsfield village (¼ mile), adjacent to Chelsfield Station (1 mile), or Orpington (3 miles) – each are signposted.
